Parental complaints about school
Bolton Local Authority will not listen to any complaint other than exceptions (see below)
Parents should follow this guide
- complaints should first be referred to the class teacher
- then escalated to the head teacher if they cannot be resolved (note…LCPS policy allows parents to go straight to point 2)
- Complaints may be further escalated to the Chair of Governors if necessary. (note…the Chair cannot be contacted without step 1 & 2 being followed. in such cases she will only ask parents to contact school first)
- Note…Parents can refer complaints to the Local government Ombudsman but the Ombudsman con only consider whether the person has been treated fairly and in accordance with policy. The Ombudsman cannot make a determination on the actual complaint.
There are some exceptions to this general approach. If the matter is a safeguarding issue then it would go through the LADO process. If the matter was a serious misconduct issue then this would trigger disciplinary procedures where appropriate.
School complaint about a parent
If the complaint is from the school about a parent then the Local Authority’s legal team will offer advice and police may in certain circumstances be involved.
